AUGUSTA, ME – Today, Maine Conservation Voters (MCV) launched a new digital advertising campaign supporting Governor Mills’ goal of reaching 100% clean energy by 2040 – accelerating the previous goal by 10 years and positioning Maine as a national example of clean energy leadership.

“Leaving dirty fossil fuels behind is the right move for our environment, health, local communities, and wallets,” said Kathleen Meil, MCV’s Senior Director of Policy and Partnerships. “Reaching 100% renewable energy by 2040 is a bold and ambitious goal, but it’s also within reach. This digital campaign will help raise awareness of the tremendous progress we have already made and bolster support for the work to come. Ultimately, this vital transition to clean energy is not only an opportunity to mitigate climate change, but also to create a more sustainable, equitable, and resilient future for all Mainers.”
Maine is already meeting, and in some circumstances, surpassing, its targets to mitigate climate change. As of 2022, the state reached 48% renewable energy usage. Since the launch of Maine’s Climate Action Plan in December 2020, Maine has made considerable progress towards a clean energy economy that supports cost-effective deployment of technologies like offshore wind, distributed generation, and energy storage. Maine’s plan to responsibly develop floating offshore wind in the Gulf of Maine, outlined in the Offshore Wind Roadmap, is part of a comprehensive process that holds equity, labor, and environmental standards at its core.
MCV’s new ads are an effort to harness the momentum for tackling the climate crisis and equitably transitioning to a clean energy economy.
