MCV Celebrates the Historic Confirmation of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court of the United States

AUGUSTA, ME – In response to today’s U.S. Senate vote confirming Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court, making her the first Black woman and first former public defender to serve on the nation’s highest court, Maine Conservation Voters (MCV) issued the following statement from Program Manager William Sedlack, J.D.:
“The confirmation of soon-to-be Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court of the United States is a moment to celebrate. Jackson will be the first Black woman to ever sit on the nation’s highest court. Because of this historic vote, we will soon have a Supreme Court Justice who will embody the diversity of our country and rule on consequential cases affecting voting rights, equality, and environmental justice. Maine Conservation Voters thanks both Sens. Collins and King for voting to confirm the eminently qualified Judge Jackson today.”
For the past two years, MCV has worked with Maine’s Courts Matter coalition to ensure that Maine people understand the powerful effect of the Judiciary on their daily lives, and that the Judiciary reflects the diverse backgrounds and lived experiences of the people it serves.
