AUGUSTA, ME – For the past two years Maine Conservation Voters (MCV) has worked with Maine’s Courts Matter coalition to ensure that Maine people understand the powerful effect of the Judiciary on their daily lives, and that the Judiciary reflects the diverse backgrounds and lived experiences of the people it serves.
In anticipation of President Biden’s historic announcement that Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson will be nominated to the Supreme Court of the United States, MCV issued the following statement from Program Manager William Sedlack:
“The Supreme Court’s next Justice will impact our climate, environment, and voting rights for decades to come.
We applaud President Biden’ for fulfilling his campaign promise to nominate the first Black woman to the Supreme Court. We are confident that Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson will add a critical perspective and unique voice on the Court, and that her distinguished service on the D.C. Circuit and D.C. District Courts, as well as the U.S. Sentencing Commission, makes her exceptionally well-qualified.
We urge Senator Collins and Senator King to quickly confirm this highly qualified nominee, dedicated public servant, and distinguished jurist.”
